Just a Thought

How is it that after all the apparent progressions of the human race, we still feel the need to have wars? Countless of horrendous acts are deemed as socially unacceptable, and yet this one by far is the most macabre.

Any act of terrorism that happens in the States is a national affair; and yet all over the world, every day, innocent children, men, and women are being BLOWN UP due to political disagreements. Are their lives of lesser value?

The following is an excerpt from 'Blood Rites', by Barbara Ehrenreich (I have not yet completely read the book, but I find it extremely interesting and I plan on finishing it) :

What is war that it exerts such cruel demands on us? It is first, in an economic sense, a parasite on human cultures—draining them of the funds and resources, talent and personnel, that could be used to advance the cause of human life and culture. But "parasitism is too mild a term for a relationship predicated on the periodic killing of large numbers of human beings. If war is a "living" thing, it is a kind of creature that, by its very nature, devours us. To look at war, carefully and long enough, is to see the face of the predator over which we thought we had triumphed long ago.

I understand the importance of defending your country. I understand that the world will NEVER be a perfect place. But there are ways, I’m sure, to come to an agreement besides fighting to the death like wild animals.
